Craig McKay said: “We could all be doing much more. You can grow your own business and grow the local economy by getting involved in international trade. We have to extend the city’s reach around the world.”

The Master Cutler, the head of the Company of Cutlers and an ambassador for industry, has put international trade at the forefront of his year in office and will lead a mission to Canada next year with the International Trade Forum. He is also attending the free UKTI breakfast event at Rotherham’s Advanced Manufacturing Park on November 26.

He said the city’s businesses have the innovation and skills needed to conquer the world and argues the Made In Sheffield brand gives companies an edge over competitors.

He added: “We have to catch people’s imagination and get businesses hooked into international trade.

“The Sheffield brand is massive around the world and it can, and should, be used as leverage with potential overseas customers.

“The products and services we have here have global reach and we need our business leaders to commit to international trade.”
