A mobile phone app developed by Barnsley Markets has won a national award.
Barnsley Markets was presented with the Markets Innovation Award by The National Association of British Market Authorities.
The app enables people to use their smart phones to pinpoint what they need to find in the market.
It has now been extended to the rest of the town.
It was developed thanks to funding from the Government’s high profile scheme to improve town centres and high streets, spearheaded by Mary Portas.
Graham Wilson from the association said: “Social media is helping markets to be successful in challenging trading conditions and Barnsley is leading the way in recognising the important contribution that social media can make.”
