An executive from a Sheffield group has been named Young Financial Director of the Year.
Marie Cooper, finance director of valve specialist President Engineering Group, received the award at the annual Finance Directors’ Excellence Awards, in London.
Judges said: “Marie has taken on every challenge that she’s faced in a positive, feisty and commercial way. She is a great role model for other young FDs.”
Marie Cooper was identified as a potential high-flyer by Mark Henley, when he joined the valve manufacturer as managing director, and she played a central role in the management buy-out which led to the creation of President three years ago. Last year she also played a key part in President’s acquisition of Bretby Gammatech. Marie said: “It was a fantastic evening. I was just enjoying being there in the final six and when they announced my name I was speechless.”
The FDs’ Excellence Awards are run by Real Business in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Real Business’s co-founder, Matthew Rock, said: “The continuing emergence of award-winning female financial talent will help to bring greater diversity to the top of British business and is a route that is increasingly being considered by women aiming to enter the boardroom.”
