Technical and construction employment specialist Linear Recruitment has emerged as the biggest employer among the Sheffield region’s Top 100 SMEs.

Linear was founded in Sheffield in 2001 and has grown to become a major player in the sector, with offices in Leeds, Walsall, Milton Keynes, Newcastle and London.

Last year the company expanded to include the oil, gas and energy sectors, opening an office in the Norwegian capital, Oslo.

Last year’s leading employers, Riverside Healthcare, Excel Parking Services and Company Shop have all increased staff.

A previous table-topper, Doncaster-based Riverside, runs Cheswold Park Hospital, which opened six years ago as a low-to-medium-secure 96-bed private psychiatric unit, providing secure housing, treatment and rehabilitation for men with schizophrenia and other mental health problems.

Excel Parking Services provides a range of car park management services and products from its base in Sheffield and is another previous table topper, while the Barnsley-based Company Shop is a discount store group.

The group’s headquarters is the base for Eve, the construction group that specialises in supplying temporary roads and walkways, barriers and fencing and security.
