Law firm Hill Dickinson is taking over DLA Piper’s defendant insurance practice in Sheffield and Manchester.
DLA Piper announced last year that it was consulting staff about the sale or closure of its defendant insurance department, as part of a plan to cut around 250 jobs.
Plans outlined at the time also included the centralisation of document production operations in Leeds and the closure of DLA Piper’s office in Glasgow.
Following the deal, the bulk of the 30 DLA Piper staff involved will move to Hill Dickinson’s offices at the Balance, in Sheffield, with the rest going to Manchester.
The defendant insurance department has a turnover of approximately £2 million and is ranked as the top defendant personal injury practice in Yorkshire, by Chambers guide to the legal profession.
Hill Dickinson says the practice has a strong capability and specialism in disease cases.
Its entire client base, including high-profile insurers and corporate clients, will transfer defendant insurance matters to Hill Dickinson as part of the deal, subject to their agreement.
The deal is due to take effect from the end of February.
