Lawyers from the Sheffield office of Nabarro have advised leading UK sportswear retailer Sports Direct International on its acquisition of an £86.8 million property portfolio from executive deputy chairman Mike Ashley.

Nabarro property partner Rebecca Kitchingham and senior associate Michaela Mason provided advice on the real estate part of the deal, while corporate partner Andrea Cropley and associate Richard Lee advised on the corporate aspects.

James Hartley, who is the Sports Direct client relationship partner at Nabarro, said: “This was the first time that Nabarro has worked with Sports Direct and I’m pleased that our team in Sheffield was able to provide the property and corporate expertise for this significant acquisition.”

The deal is due for completion at the start of March next year, following shareholders’ approval earlier this month.
