Travel South Yorkshire is urging people to take extra care and plan their journeys in advance due to current snowfall.

The main travel information website for South Yorkshire has crashed due to large numbers of people trying to find out if bus, tram and train services are affected by the snow.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive is advising people not to use its website but to look at its Twitter feed @travelsyorks or call 01709 515151 instead.

Several major roads on high ground around Sheffield have been affected by the weather and buses are disrupted. Services between Hillsborough and Bradfield, into the Peak District west of Fox House and between Chesterfield and Matlock are suspended.

The snow led to the closure of two of the main trans Pennine routes in South Yorkshire.

Both the A57 Snake Pass and A628 Woodhead Pass were closed in both directions.

The M62 is still open but conditions are said to be difficult on high ground.
