DOZENS of jobs are at risk around South Yorkshire at five branches of Focus DIY.

The chain, which employs almost 4,000 staff at 175 stores around the country, has gone into administration, with Ernst and Young appointed to handle its assets.

Focus has stores at Drake House Retail Park, Sheffield; Parkgate, Rotherham; Dryden Road, Barnsley; Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster; and Ravenside Business Park, Chesterfield.

Simon Allport, joint administrator, said: “Low consumer confidence and a very weak housing transaction market has impacted on Focus. Despite actions to tightly control costs, unfortunately it has not been possible for the business to continue to trade outside of insolvency.”

Ernst and Young is attempting to sell the business, founded in 1987, as a going concern.
