iPads the prize in design a den competition for Sheffield kids on lockdown

Primary age pupils can enter the competition by submitting a photo of a drawing, model or full-size retreat.

Devised by four firms involved in property, it aims to help children learn more about design, construction, engineering and sustainability and has a focus on using recycled materials to create an eco-friendly den.

The best in three age groups (4 to 6 years, 7 to 9 and 10 to 11) win an iPad. Runners-up receive a creative art set. Entrants must live in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

Amanda Wild, of co-organisers Peak Architects, said: “These are difficult times for all of us, and particularly for children who have found their usual routines and schooling completely turned upside down.

“We hope our competition will entertain primary-age children and encourage creative thinking and problem-solving. The kids can set their imaginations free with this challenge and as the weather improves, it’s a great opportunity to get them out into the garden to either build a den or find inspiration for what materials they can use in their designs. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!”

The contest is run by Peak Architects, aluminium glazing systems manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems, commercial interior design and fit-out specialist OVO Spaces and Great Places Housing Group.

The competition is open until Friday 1st May. Entries should be submitted as JPEG or PDF documents and emailed to [email protected] before 12.00 noon on Friday May 1.
