Rail sector businesses are being offered the chance to get on the right track for export success.

South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC) is planning a series of market visits for UK rail companies to some of world’s the biggest rail sector conventions.

The first visit, at the start of November, offers companies a chance to visit Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Companies will get the chance to attend the Suissetransport exhibition in Bern, Switzerland, which covers both road and rail transport and Railtec, in Dortmund, Germany, which is this year featuring special links with the Hungarian rail industry.

Companies will also get a chance to follow up approaches from Austria’s national rail operator to UK Trade and Industry, aimed at finding new suppliers.

Further visits are planned to AusRAIL PLUS 2007, Australasia’s largest rail event, which takes place at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia at the start of December, and the Middle East’s premier traffic and transport infrastructure show, Gulf Traffic Expo, at the Dubai International Exhibition centre, a few days after AusRail finishes.

SYITC international trade advisor Eric Holland said: “Australia has a rail network almost three times the size of the UK’s, including intensive suburban services in the major cities.

“Having identified the need to invest heavily in key areas including transport infrastructure, Middle East governments have committed more than $147billion to transport projects.

“This all means that 2007 is a great time for UK rail organisations to be building up networks and meeting the best in sectors across the global rail industry such as infrastructure, manufacturing and maintenance.”

SYITC is offering eligible South Yorkshire companies assistance in the form of funding and help with market research.
