A host of local restaurants will be helping Valentine couples work up an appetite for love...

THE Café Bar at Sheffield’s Showroom is being transformed into a romantic sanctuary for Valentine’s Day.

Candlelight, piano music and dinner prepared by new head chef Simon Ayres, formerly of award-winning city gastro pub the Milestone, is on the menu.

For £50 all in, couples get sparkling wine and canapés, three courses, coffee and petit fours. Guests can round off their romantic night at a screening of one of the all-time classic romances Brief Encounter, being screened at the cinema that evening,

Early love-birds can sample Simon’s fare on Friday February 10. He’s preparing a five-course Valentine taster menu of dishes from around the world. Each dish will be accompanied by wines selected by Sheffield wine merchants Le Bon Vin and it’s £25 a head.

Simon, dubbed “the cage fighter in the kitchen” by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay as the Milestone fought for the Best Of British crown on his TV series two years ago, launches a new menu in March. .

ROMANCE your other half on a shoestring budget at Frankie and Benny’s at Meadowhall’s Oasis. On the day, dine from the lunch menu; two courses are £7.95 or three courses are £8.95 up to 5pm.

SPICE up your love life with a Valentine’s Day dinner at Otto’s Moroccan restaurant on Sharrowvale Road. There’s a special menu at £33 a head, which includes a glass of champagne.

THERE’S a booze-infused menu for lovers on at Whiston’s Golden Ball. Starters on the three-course £18.95 menu include Tomato and Gin Soup and mains include Sole and Smoked Salmon Roulade in white wine. The Valentine menu runs from February 11 to 14.

THERE’s a free glass of bubbly for lovers enjoying a three-course £25 Valentine’s meal at Platillos in Leopold Square. A sharing mezze of starters plus mains and dessert is available February 12-14. Booking essential.

GOURMET food straight from local farms is on the menu at the Rob Royd Farm Shop cafe on Valentine’s night. The Genn Lane, Worsbrough, venue is charging £45 per person for a luxury dinner.
