More than 700 applications have been received from graduates wanting internships with businesses across Sheffield.

Creative Sheffield, part of Sheffield Council, runs a graduate intern programme known as RISE, which connects small and medium-sized businesses with graduates looking for employment.

There are 30 internships available for roles including business, computing, design, marketing, engineering and quality assurance, with salaries ranging from £14,500 to £24,000 per year.

Garry Meakin, private sector ambassador for the RISE programme, said: “The quality of these well-paid internships shows once and for all that Sheffield can deliver great careers for talented graduates.

“They also demonstrate the strength and vibrancy of the city’s small and medium enterprises and a confidence about growth.

“It is notable these 30 internships have been unearthed in just six weeks which augurs well for extending and sustaining this great programme.

“On the other side of the equation the graduate community have also responded to the challenge with equal relish with more than 700 applications.”

Coun Leigh Bramall, council cabinet member for business, skills and development, said: “RISE has generated a real buzz in Sheffield among both the business and graduate community.

“We are delighted so many graduates have seen the value in the opportunities available and taken the time to apply.”
