The Federation of Small Businesses is working with Sheffield City Council to bring traders in Hillsborough together to find ways of turning the area into a major shopping hub.
The Federation says Hillsborough’s shopping centre has withstood many challenges, but now faces being squeezed even further by new supermarkets at Chaucer Road, Claywheels Lane and Savile Street, and a retail park at Wadsley Bridge.
Fderation South Yorkhsire chairman, Andrew Flower, says the challenge is heightened by changing shopping patterns, an ageing population, the recession, worsening traffic conditions, crime and antisocial behaviour.
“It is vital people in the area do something now if Hillsborough is to maintain its time-honoured status as the shopping hub of North Sheffield,” said Mr Flower.
The Federation and Sheffield City Council’s North Sheffield Regeneration Team is urging local traders and anyone else with an interest in improving trade within Hillsborough to attend a meeting at the offices of the Hillsborough Forum at 9, Proctor Place on Tuesday, May 24.
