Home loans holding up
Mortgage lending remained robust in July as homeowners sought out better deals to protect against rising interest.
The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said 34.4bn was lent by its members during the month, compared with 34.8bn in June. Although down slightly, the figure was 13pc higher than the 30.6bn recorded in July 2006.
