High street fashion store closes its doors on The Moor as Sheffield loses another shop

Peacocks on The Moor remains shut, despite retail businesses being given the green light to reopen their doors for the first time since lockdown on June 15.
The clothing chain which predominantly stocks budget men’s, women’s and children’s fashion items appeared empty from a recent picture, with no mannequins or clothes in the shop window.

Hide AdPeacocks is among one of the many businesses such as Laura Ashley which shut their Meadowhall store following the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis.
Independent fashion shop, Syd and Mallory’s Emporium on Divison Street also closed their doors for good despite being legally allowed to reopen back in June and Pret a Manger followed suit by shutting their Fargate store, causing 15 job losses.
Businessman and owner of Edinburgh Woollen Mill chain, Phillip Day bought the struggling high street fashion retailer, Peacocks out of administration back in 2012.
National press reports earlier this week confirmed that Mr Day had received unsolicited approaches from buyers who are interested in taking over the clothing chain.

Hide AdThe high street businessman is said to have now appointed advisory firm FRP to find potential buyers for Peacocks as he considers selling the chain.
Brands such as Jane Norman, Jaeger and Austin Reed are also part of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group.
Peacocks which employs roughly 11,000 staff across the country over 550 outlets has reopened less than half of its stores since the initial restrictions on retailers were lifted.
