Here's where 22 new homes could be built in South Yorkshire

A planning application has been submitted to Rotherham Council for 22 homes on the land that used to house the International Centre off Simmonite Road, Kimberworth Park.

The plans consist of eight three-bedroom townhouses, 12 four-bedroom semi-detached houses, one four-bedroom detatched house and another with a detatched double garage.

Off-street parking is also planned for each unit, as well as a private access road for the dwellings.

But affordable housing will not be provided as part of the development. According to the planning statement, “in order to generate any profit from the scheme, affordable housing provision would have to be waived.”

The area was demolished in 2012 to produce a cleared site with residential development potential. Earlier that year “considerable damage” had been caused to the building when it was “deliberately” set on fire, according to fire fighters. It had previously been used by council and non-council staff.

The application states the 2.1-acre plot is located in a “well-established” residential area, “close to a number of schools, doctors surgeries and other amenities and a short distance from Rotherham town centre.” It has been submitted by Urbana Town Planning, who are based in Sheffield and London.

The consultation period, where anyone can have their say on the plans, is open until 7 February. Following that a final decision will be made.
