Silk Healthcare is creating 90 jobs in Barnsley by building a £5 million, 83-bed care home at Mapplewell.

The Leeds-based, family-run care home operator, says the Mapplewell Manor development, in Greenside Avenue, will incorporate a centre specialising in dementia care, spacious rooms with en-suite facilities, a café and coffee lounge for residents and their families and landscaped gardens.

Funding for the project comes from The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Healthcare team, with a further £500,000 coming from from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Mapplewell Manor is Silk’s third care home and is due to open in February. The company already has homes in Teesside and Burnley and plans to build a fourth home in Colne, Lancashire next year.
