government funding of £36 million is being sought for eight projects that could bring more than £540 million-worth of investment to the Sheffield City Region.
Bidders include a consortium that wants £5.7 million to help it build a £112 million ‘iconic addition to the British tourism market’ called Visions of China in Rother Valley Country Park.
The bids for cash from the Government’s £1.4 billion Regional Growth Fund have been endorsed by the new Local Enterprise Partnership, or LEP, which is submitting the biggest bid -worth £11 million - for an Employment Growth Programme to help small and medium-sized businesses.
The LEP also wants £1.2 million for a Tech Accelerator Programme aimed at high growth digital sector start ups.
Funder Yorkshire Finance is bidding for £8.5 million to aid new and high growth non-technology firms, £4 million is being sought towards regenerating Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe and £3.3 million is wanted for an Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Growth Hub at the Advanced Manufacturing Park.
Meanwhile, the Chesterfield Riverside regeneration programme and Markham Vale business park are seeking £1 million apiece.
