Group get brand new name

Pro-South Yorkshire is changing its name.

The organisation launched to promote the wide range of professional services available to organisations doing business in or from South Yorkshire will, in future, be known as Pro-Sheffield.

Chief executive Trevor Kelly says the decision has been taken after extensive discussions with members and sponsors because Sheffield is far better known as a “brand” than South Yorkshire.

What’s more, it will become even better known as cash is pumped into promoting South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire as “the Sheffield City Region”.

Mr Kelly says: “Pro-South Yorkshire’s prime objective is, and always has been, to promote the South Yorkshire-based financial and professional service businesses locally, nationally and internationally.

“From research undertaken by many sources it is evident that the brand ‘Sheffield’ is far better known nationally and internationally than ‘South Yorkshire’ and, additionally, many millions of pounds is being spent by other organisations promoting ‘Sheffield’ as a City Region.

“It is therefore logical for Pro-Sheffield, on behalf of our members, to take advantage of this ongoing marketing in order to generate additional business opportunities for our members.

“Pro-Sheffield will continue to represent the whole of the City Region, which covers South Yorkshire together with North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire.”
