Sheffield motor dealership Gilder Group has acquired Volkswagen car and van dealer Heron Newark for an undisclosed sum.

Gilder owns nine Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Volkswagen Commercial sites across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, while Heron has two sites, selling cars, trade parts and light commercial vehicles.

“The acquisition of Heron Newark is very exciting as it will kick start our return to the growth strategy that has been on hold for the last two years,” said Gilder Group chief executive, Garry Scotting.

“With a current turnover of £14 million, it will put the group’s turnover at over £200 million and the 50 new staff will put us over 500 employees.

“We already have an excellent reputation within the Volkswagen UK network for passenger car and light commercial sales and trade parts services and our acquisition of Heron Newark Ltd enables us to further improve our representation within the market.”

Mr Scotting said Gilder planed to invest up to £2 million in the two Heron sites over the next few years to enhance the service to customers and integrate the firm into Gilder’s portfolio.
