Giant panda sculpture removed from Sheffield office block roof

A giant panda has been moved from a Sheffield office block roof because it wasn’t visible enough.

The 12ft 1.3 tonne beast was judged to be too far from the edge of the New Era building on Bramall Lane.

Now it is back on the ground alongside two small pandas in the development’s public square.

Developer Jerry Cheung said: “Because of the mansafe system on the roof, the panda was installed too far from the roof edge, as a result you have to be quite far away to get a good view of it, in short it did not achieve the result we were anticipating.

“I decided to move it to the Square to be nearer to the two small pandas (which were looking a bit lonely), not only achieving a bigger collective impact, you can also say this is a family reunion!”

New Era is a £66m Asia-inspired district comprising flats, shops, cafes and offices.
