Former bowling alley in Sheffield goes on market after sudden closure

MFA Bowl Sheffield in Firth Park closed without warning in June 2018.

The premises on Sicey Avenue are now being advertised to let, with rental offers of over £100,000 per year being sought.

But any hopes of it being resurrected as a bowling alley appear slim, as the sales brochure states that it has been ‘stripped back to shell condition’.

The 2,600 sqm property, which is being marketed by Lambert Smith Hampton, previously hosted a bar and offices as well as the bowling lanes.

It also has a car park with space for around 50 vehicles, and it is described as being suitable for various uses, subject to planning permission.

When MFA Bowl Sheffield closed in 2018, one customer told how he was initially led to believe the venue was closing for refurbishment, only to discover it was shutting ‘until further notice’.

Sheffield’s newest bowling alley, Lane 7, opened just before Christmas on Matilda Street, off The Moor, in the city centre.

As well as nine lanes of ten pin bowling, it features baseball-style batting cages, dartboards, pool and more, plus an extensive bar menu and upmarket street food from burger specialists Fat Hippo. It is open from 11am to midnight during the week and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Lane7 launched in Newcastle in 2014 and has since expanded to cities around the UK.
