Sheffield Forgemasters’ apprenticeship programme has been named ‘Apprenticeship of the Year’ at the first ever Nuclear Training Awards, staged by Nuclear Engineering International magazine.
The programme was one of just five training courses in the world to win recognition at the awards, presented ahead of National Apprenticeship Week, which begins on Monday.
Judge David Whitmore, global engineering and technical director for Atkins, said: “Forgemasters operates an excellent company training programme for a wide range of skills. There is innovative training with the sector skills council and other providers.”
Judges also praised Forgemasters’ high staff retention rate and the level of interest in apprenticeships running through the company, up to board level.
Fifty of the Brightside Lane company’s 743 employees are apprentices
Forgemasters chief, Professor Graham Honeyman, said: “Sheffield Forgemasters has invested heavily in training and apprenticeships and we pride ourselves as having one of the best schemes in the country.”
