Another former works building in Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter could be knocked down to make way for flats.

Noble Design and Build has applied to demolish Eon Works in Eyre Street and put up 162 studios and apartments in its place. The development would also include a laundry, gym and commercial unit.

According to the plans, the mix of accommodation will result in an ‘efficient re-use of previously developed land’.

“The use as a residential development, with basement parking, ground floor commercial space, ancillary accommodation and apartments arranged around a top-lit atrium space, are entirely appropriate to the physical and policy context of the site,” the plans add.

“The area has suffered from vandalism and neglect in recent years and the introduction of a critical mass of high quality housing in the area is seen as key to its regeneration.”
