PRIVATE health and fitness chain LA Fitness says membership is rising 12 months after the Doncaster-based business launched a £30 million investment programme.
Turnover was £112 million for the 15 months to October 2011, compared with £92 million for the preceding 12 months and the company recorded a pre-tax loss of £27.9 million – down from £39.4 million in the preceding 12 months.
Membership increased by 11,000 to 200,000, but remains below the 230,000 figure the company was quoting three years ago.
During the period LA Fitness launched partnerships with the Amateur Swimming Association and Weight Watchers, becoming the first private operator to offer ASA accredited swimming programmes.
Chief executive Martin Long said: “The group’s performance in 2011 was very strong with improving net member movement, retention and future contract value all indicating strong positive trends for 2012.
