Firm gains by 80 per cent

A Killamarsh information and communications technology company has achieved 80 per cent growth after taking part in a Learning and Skills Council-funded Train to Gain initiative.

Sharpe Systems based at Westthorpe Business Park, was finding it hard to develop its business any further.

When employing a sales and marketing officer didn't have the impact on sales that the company expected, it decided to take a different tack and see if training could help to take the business forward.

Director Tim Sharpe asked Train to Gain skills broker Lucie Andrews for advice on the best way to improve business planning and performance management skills in-house.

Tim Sharpe, said: "We decided to join a mentoring scheme, which meets our business planning and performance management needs and have also had marketing guidance through an external agency - we could never have done it alone.

"Thanks to new skills and methods I have learnt, we have changed the whole way our business works and have learnt to work a lot smarter. As a result we have seen an 80 per cent growth, which I am delighted about."
