CONSTRUCTION group JF Finnegan has promoted Gary Smith to the post of managing director.

Mr Smith joined the Sheffield-based group from local rivals Henry Boot Construction in 1989, starting out as an estimator and becoming chief estimator before joining the company’s board two years ago.

He takes over as managing director from Philip Hollister, who has been Finnegan’s chairman and managing director since 2010 and will continue as the Ecclesall Road company’s chairman.

Gary Smith has been part of the team responsible for the delivery of some of JF Finnegan’s leading projects, including the redevelopment of the former Wards Exchange Brewery, the St Paul’s Place office development in the city centre, the award-winning Sheffield City College and Hillsborough College developments, the Holiday Inn Sheffield, and the Brookfields Park and Magna 34 business parks.
