Sheffield’s retail scene has been given a boost after fashion retailer Blue Inc announced it is opening a new store on The Moor – creating 10 jobs.
The company, which has stores at Crystal Peaks and Meadowhall shopping centres, is moving to the former Vision Express outlet near Debenhams and is due to open next Friday.
The announcement comes after The Moor secured Primark as anchor tenant for its new block which includes a cinema and restaurants.
Blue Inc offers ‘urban style at affordable prices’ and some of its items have been worn by celebrities such as JLS and Scouting for Girls.
Steven Cohen, chief executive of Blue Inc, said: “We are delighted to be launching Blue Inc on The Moor in Sheffield. We are also pleased to be employing a significant number of local staff and supporting the community.
“We hope the new store creates a real ‘buzz’ and is a great success over many years to come.”
Ranald Phillips, director of Ashcroft, agents for The Moor’s owner Scottish Widows, said: “This is confirmation that The Moor is starting to attract new fashion retailers to Sheffield.
“Blue Inc will start trading next week, which is great news and demonstrates confidence in the retail opportunities on The Moor now.
“We are also making good progress with the new retail and leisure development below Debenhams opening in 2015. Primark have already committed to this and we are having active talks with operators for the 10-screen cinema.”
Continuing retailer confidence in The Moor comes despite lack of progress on development of the neighbouring Sevenstone development.
Sheffield Council has welcomed the news.
Coun Leigh Bramall, cabinet member for business said: “With the regeneration of The Moor well under way, it’s great to see yet another retailer giving the area their vote of confidence.”
The Moor is holding two events next weekend, on August 3 and 4. There will be seaside entertainment on Saturday for the Pier on the Moor event, and a classic car show on Sunday.
