FOOD and drink industry experts at Yorkshire Bank are urging firms from the sector to capitalise on new export opportunities.
The Bank says strong export figures in both mature and emerging markets have left the sector well-placed to enjoy a period of prolonged growth.
David Lee, head of food and drink at Yorkshire Bank, said: “A change in eating habits in Asian countries has seen a substantial increase in the flow of Western products. Now is the time for UK companies to do their homework and find new markets for established domestic foods.”
Yorkshire Bank says successful exporters include Barnsley bakery Haywood and Padgett, which started selling abroad after investing more than £2 million in new technology and buildings.
Haywood and Padgett makes a million scones a day, sells to Europe and Australia and has plans to expand into the US and Asia.
