Leading local business advisers and business people are coming together to discuss prospects for the future of the local economy.

Risk management, financial planning and insurance expert Proaktive is joining forces with The Star to host the latest in a series of Round Table discussions on key issues facing businesses across South Yorkshire.

A hand-picked group of local experts including corporate finance specialists, accountants, legal experts and entrepreneurs will be asked about their expectations for 2012 and how companies can chart a way through what continue to be stormy waters.

Andy Morley managing director of Proaktive, in Sheffield, said: “Times are still tough for many, but there are also opportunities for businesses that carefully plot their way through the downturn. The Round Table will explore the key issues facing local companies in a range of sectors and how, with the help of their professional advisers, they can buttress their businesses against the bad times, whilst ensuring they seize every opportunity for growth, including expansion into new markets. Edited highlights of the round table discussion, chaired by Star Industrial Editor Bob Rae, will appear in The Star’s Business Monthly magazine and as a video and text on The Star’s website:

Bob Rae said: “We are delighted to be working with Proaktive to discover the issues local businesses are facing and what can be done to help them on the path to renewed growth. Before the downturn, this was one of the fastest growing places in the country and, in a number of sectors, many firms appeared to have weathered this recession far better than the recessions of the 1980s and 90s.

“We hope this latest Round Table will show where we should be going from here.”

The Round Table discussion will involve around a dozen leading business people and take place at lunchtime on Thursday, October 20, at The Star’s York Street offices.
