The exciting addition to the city’s culinary scene would be created at the former British Tissues site in Oughtibridge, with plans being submitted to Sheffield Council and developers keen to get on with the project as soon as the coronavirus crisis is over.

Sky-House Co wants to turn the mill building into a mixed-use food hall, community hub and leisure space, with facilities for start-up businesses too.

The firm has already been granted planning permission to build 35 new ‘Sky House’ homes, the innovative 21st century take on back-to-back housing designed by CODA Studios.

The historic Mill Cottages there are also set to be converted into four apartments and a cottage, and Sky-House Co hopes to begin work soon at the former industrial site in the picturesque Don Valley, where more than 280 homes in total are due to be built.

David Cross, the co-founder of Sky-House Co, said: “The interest in this site has been enormous and we are already in talks with two operators who are very interested in the food hall development, which would bring a new dining experience to the north of Sheffield and serve what is set to become one of the city’s most ambitious residential developments.

“The food hall will be a fantastic community, family and social space that will be of benefit not only to the people on this site but also for the north of Sheffield as a whole.

“And having seen the success of our Krynkl development at Shalesmoor in Sheffield, we are very keen to give the same sort of support to start-up businesses in this part of the city too, working with independent business to create an exciting new dynamic.”

Sky-House Co is also nearing completion of its Waverley development in Rotherham, where plans for another 44 homes are due to be submitted in April.

And a further application is in the pipeline for seven new townhouses at the former Peggy Tub site in Stocksbridge, close to the Fox Valley shopping centre.
