A business conference in Sheffield organised to talk about the Local Enterprise Partnership growth plan and featuring television business commentator Justin Urquhart Stewart has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

The Sheffield City Region Chambers’ Conference for Growth was set to be staged today at the English Institute for Sport as part of the Grand Depart Business Festival.

Richard Wright, executive director of Sheffield Chamber, said: “We decided to cancel the event as we didn’t feel we were going to get a good enough cross section of businesses attending.

“Interest was low, albeit there is always a last minute rush for events of this nature, and we suspect there may be too many other things going at the same time with the Tour de France, World Cup and Global Manufacturing Festival.

“Also, we didn’t think it was fair to ask Richard Spacey and Justin Urquhart Stewart to travel up from London with no guarantee they had an audience.

“We apologise to those people who booked for the event.”
