Kate Betts, director of Barnsley-based media and PR agency Capital B Media, has been appointed an associate trainer and consultant at the Emergency Planning College, near York.
The college, which used to be part of the civil service, is now run for the Cabinet Office by Serco.
Kate Betts will run courses for emergency planners on how to deal with the media in a civil emergency and how to use social media.
She has also been appointed to run training courses on PR and dealing with the media around the country on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
Kate Betts said: “It is a great honour to be taken on by these two prestigious organisations.
“Most of our training is within Yorkshire and the East Midlands, although we already have clients as far away as Brighton, but this means we will be working on a national stage with clients from all over the country, which is great for Barnsley.”
Kate Betts has been providing media training for more than seven years for clients who include South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire Police, North East Derbyshire District Council, the Crown Prosecution Service, The Pensions Regulator and various parts of the NHS.
