CONDITIONS may be mild but overhead signs on South Yorkshire’s motorways are being used to remind motorists to prepare their cars in case of harsh weather.
The Highways Agency, which oversees motorways and trunk roads, is taking the step to make sure drivers are not caught out.
The move is being backed by Halfords Autocentres.
Spokesman Rory Carlin said: “We believe it’s essential motorists understand that cold weather places stressful demands on their vehicles and preparation is key to them remaining mobile over the winter months.
“While we encourage motorists to act before the weather turns, we can help prevent the thousands of cold weather related breakdowns that occur every winter due to poor foresight.”
