Hundreds of jobs await as Doncaster Sheffield Airport begins search for who will work there after relaunch

The relaunch of Doncaster Sheffield Airport is building speed - now the question is who is going to work there.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport has launched its search for who will work at the airport day to day after the long-awaited relaunch.

The airport has now launched its call for a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) - essentially a call for aviation-focused firms to take up residence at the strip for operational functions and oversee creating hundreds of jobs.

It will decide who will be in charge of jobs down the line - from high-end work like private jets, medical aircraft and private pilots, to security, ground services, airfield management and terminal operations.

The FBO is also in charge of aircraft handling, fuelling, and parking, alongside passenger and crew facilities. They may also handle hangarage, maintenance coordination, and landside services such as transport and catering.

Whoever wins the contract will work alongside the airport operator to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operations for staff and flyers each and ever day.

FlyDoncaster, which operates Doncaster Sheffield Airport, will undertake a procurement process which is expected to conclude in May.

Christian Foster, Director at FlyDoncaster, said: “We’re delighted to take this next step in the journey towards opening Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Our team is committed to delivering a seamless, efficient and premium experience for both passengers and operators, and the partners we work with are vital to the airport’s future success.

“The selected FBO will benefit from the strong infrastructure already in place at DSA, while playing an important role in re‑establishing the airport as a centre for high‑quality aviation services."

Simon Hinchley, Executive Director for Airport Operations at FlyDoncaster, added: "As we work towards re-opening Doncaster Sheffield Airport, our focus is firmly on building a safe, efficient and operationally robust airport that is ready to serve a broad range of users from day one.

“The Fixed Base Operator will be a critical part of our operational ecosystem - supporting daily airfield activity, maintaining high service standards and helping us deliver a professional and well‑managed operating environment. We are looking for a partner who shares our commitment to operational excellence and who can grow with the airport as activity increases.”

Aviation businesses seeking to submit a proposal to the FBO process need to do so by the end of April. Backed by City of Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, Doncaster Sheffield Airport is expected to generate £5bn for the regional economy by 2050.
