Two digital media businesses from South Yorkshire have been named winners in the Yorkshire Digital & Technology Awards.

Sheffield firm Quba came first in the Best Business to Business Website for its Symphony Event Management Software, while Barnsley-based e@SY Connects was named best software provider.

Quba is a web development agency whose clients include the BBC, Land Rover, Oxford University Stanley Tools and US singer Katy Perry’s perfume brand, Purr.

The Rockingham Street company has also developed its own pioneering event management and marketing software, called Symphony, which handles everything from creating professional e-mail marketing campaigns and online booking and registration forms to managing tasks and timings and producing name badges.

South Yorkshire’s other winner, e@SY Connects, links councils, health services, emergency services, voluntary groups and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, Job Centre Plus and Yorkshire Forward to provide everybody with a simple, innovative access to information and services, particularly for those in greatest need.

The partnership uses TVs, mobile phone, kiosks, gaming platforms and the internet and judges praised its “funky use of new technology to improve everyone’s lives,” adding that e@SY had a massive logistical job to co-ordinate so many organisations in South Yorkshire.
