City pie-munchers are being urged to come up with a recipe that captures the taste of Sheffield.
The winning filling will go head-to-head with other novel Northern pie-in-the-sky ideas.
The ultimate winner will be crowned Cock o’ The North and the pie made up by of Wigan-based Poole’s, the UK’s oldest pie maker. “We want to produce a pie that truly reflects the north and make it available in supermarkets, chip shops and pubs,” says Poole’s MD Neil Court-Johnston.
“There are so many ingredients that could be used. In Sheffield, we’ve already had suggestions for a ‘Full Monty’ pie containing a complete English breakfast. There will probably be calls for some Henderson’s Relish too.”
