Barnsley College is battling the skills crisis facing businesses across the region.

In an effort to improve the levels of employee literacy and numeracy locally, it is offering free courses to businesses and unemployed people in the area.

The college said that a report by the Confederation of British Industry found that 42 per cent of businesses surveyed were forced to provide employees with additional training in literacy and numeracy.
