World famous toy store Hamleys has opened a new branch in Meadowhall.

One of the world’s oldest and largest toy stores, the firm opened its new store at the shopping complex yesterday.

The 2,000 sq ft store welcomed customers for the first time – but it seems that size is everything and many shoppers were disappointed with the smallness of the shop.

The pop up store, ocated on High Street and close to the Oasis Dining Quarter entrance, is giving toy shoppers plenty of famous brands and products in the run up to Christmas.

Described as a magical toy wonderland, the new store is stocked with an array of toys ranging from traditional to more high-tech – including games, puzzles and arts and crafts. It is also home to famous brands such as Lego, Barbie, Playmobil and LOL, as well as an exclusive range of Hamleys toys including its popular teddy bears.

Families heading to the new store can expect a truly interactive experience, with the opportunity to try all of its different toys and enjoy live demonstrations from its expert team.

Hamleys will also be visited by its special characters and will enjoy guest appearances from the world of TV and film.

Sumeet Yadav, Chief Executive Officer at Global Retail Business, Reliance Brands Limited, said: “Opening the newest Hamleys in Meadowhall is truly exciting for us to share the unique Hamleys experience with all those who visit us in Sheffield. Nothing is more important to us than seeing the smiles on faces in-store and knowing we’ve created magical memories every step of the way. Paired with a wide range of toys, you’ll always have something to do when you visit us.”.

Darren Pearce, centre director at Meadowhall said: “It’s brilliant to have such an iconic brand like Hamleys join us at Meadowhall. I know that our shoppers are going to get so much enjoyment out of the store, especially in the run up to Christmas.”

But it seems some shoppers were left disappointed by the store’s size.

Rachel Mosley-Thompson wrote on Facebook: “It’s tiny. Very small, very disappointing.

Deborah Kirkby added: “I was disappointed when we walked past, Hamleys for me it's a magical place.”

Clare Winter posted: “I thought it would have been where Mothercare was on 2 floors. It looks so small.”

Linda Kent WasMunford added: “The only two toy shops in Meadowhall and they are so small.”

And Nicola Dawson wrote: “Wish they had put it where Mothercare was. Would of been so much better and bigger.”

Jenna Berry added: “I’m gutted how tiny it is.”

Hamleys was founded in 1760, making it the world’s oldest toy retailer, and has more than 160 stores across 18 countries.
