Woodseats Working Men's Club: Once loved Sheffield club now rubble as pictures show demolition complete

This is all that is left of a former Sheffield working men’s club, after a demolition team reduced the building to rubble.

Bulldozers moved onto the site last week, and now appear to have completed the job of knocking down the venue, on Dale Road.

One former official was saddened that the venue was being demolished.

Josh Smith told us on our Facebook page: “Used to be a brilliant club, that. I was on the committee there.”

The club had been a popular hub of the community for more than 90 years and hosted many local and visiting bands. The gallery below shows what now remains, and how the venue appeared in its glory days.

But it closed during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and never reopened, with reports that it was hit hard financially by the enforced closure during the lockdowns.

Plans were approved by Sheffield Council in July to demolish the building and replace it with a new five-storey building containing affordable retirement apartments for people aged over 55.

One of the bands which played there called the news ‘devastating’, describing the club as a ‘great’ venue run by a ‘fantastic’ team.
