Wok This Way Walkley: Owner explains future of site after closure of well known Sheffield Chinese takeaway

It’s been a well known fixture on a Sheffield neighbourhood high street for a generation.

But the Walkley Chinese take away, Wok This Way, has been closed since early November, after the manager left the job through illness.

Now the owner of the shop, and the owner of the franchise, has explained what he hopes to do with the business in the future.

Businessman So Fong confirmed that the venue has now been closed since early November. He added it had been running on the site at Howard Road for over 20 years.

He is now keen to see it re-opened as Wok this Way, but says he would also consider a new use for the building if there is an offer that would better suit the building.

He said: “It is closed at present, but we are happy to talk to anyone about the future of the site. It has been run under licence in the past.

“There is every chance that it could re-open again as Wok this Way. I’m the landlord who owns the licence, and have always supported the business. We provide supplies.

“But I think really it is still ideal for a Chinese takeaway of sorts, because of all the equipment that is already there, and it is costly to fit out a building as a takeaway. it has all you need and is ready to go.

“So it could re-open again as Wok this Way, and I’m looking for the right operator.”

He said that the previous manager had been popular, and had run the business through difficult times including the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Fong says that anyone interested in taking over the site can contact him on 07712 593621.
