The well-loved American diner closed in November last year, and the distinctive round building on Sevenairs Road, Beighton, was purchased by pub chain giant, JD Wetherspoon.

Although planning permission has been granted, some minor amendments were rejected on July 10, 2020 on the basis that a further full application is required.

It is expected that the pub will feature a garden area with external seating for customers if planning arrangements for the site are approved.

Bosses at Wetherspoons continue to remain tight-lipped about the exact timings of the project, despite rumours that the pub would open this year.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons said that they are committed to opening a pub on the site of the former restaurant.

However, at present, there are no confirmed dates for the opening.

A licensing application to change the layout of the pub is currently pending and is yet to be decided.

According to planning documents, the name of the pub will be The Scarsdale Hundred.

Wetherspoon’s pubs are often named after famous local people or landmarks of the town in which they are situated.

It appears that the name for the pub is derived from the late Saxon period as counties were historically divided into administrative divisions called hundreds that we now know as districts.

Derbyshire was split into seven hundreds with Scarsdale located in the North East of the county, bordering Yorkshire and containing some Sheffield suburbs including Beighton.

Plenty of people have reacted to the latest updates, with opinions divided.

Mark Kehoe commented on Facebook: “I’ve had some lovely meals in Wetherspoon pubs and they’re great value. Can’t wait for this to open.”

John Smith said: “I will never frequent any establishment there now. The locals have got what they wanted. They wanted a meal for 4 and drinks and get change from 20 quid. Spoilt it for people that like quality. Well, I hope Beighton folks are satisfied.”

Julie Parkes said: “Miss Damon's.”

Vicky Eaton Bailey said: “I like the name, Beighton was mentioned in the Domesday book as part of the Scarsdale 100.”
