Talks held over future of famous Sheffield pub following shock closure
New hopes after community leaders meet with pub company to raise concerns
Talks have taken place over the future of a famous Sheffield pub following its shock closure last month.
The Earl Marshal, on East Bank Road, Arbourthorne, closed in September, with a note on its social media pages describing it as expected and that it would be closed for the “foreseeable future”.

In an announcement on Facebook, management at the Earl Marshal stated at the time: “Due to unforeseen circumstances Stonegate have decided we will be closed effective immediately for the foreseeable future.
“We are truly sorry and would like to thank all our customers for their continued support.”
Now, Sheffield Council ward councillors for Park and Arbourthorne, Ben Miskell and Mia Drazaic, have held a meeting the the pub’s owners over the closure due to community concerns.
Councillor Miskell said: “During our discussions, the company assured us that they intend to invest in the pub and are committed to reopening it as soon as possible. This is welcome news, and it’s a promise we fully intend to hold them to.
“Our local pubs are so much more than places to have a drink.
“They’re at the heart of our communities, bringing people together, tackling loneliness and providing welcoming spaces where people from all walks of life can meet, celebrate and feel a sense of community. Over the years, we’ve lost far too many of them.”
Stonegate has been contacted.
