Take a look inside the former Chesterfield Hotel as demolition work finally reduces iconic building to rubble

As demolition teams finally reduced the Chesterfield Hotel building to rubble, we look back at fascinating pictures taken inside the empty building.

The proposals will see the existing Chesterfield Hotel car park returned to use alongside a temporary open surface car park which is to be built on the footprint of the old hotel.

Chesterfield Borough Council was granted planning permission to open a temporary car park with a total of 88 spaces at the Malkin Street location.

The hotel, formerly the Station Hotel, opened in 1877 and closed in 2015 after the previous company that owned it went bust.

Before it was flattened, urban explorers from Abandoned UK went inside and got these fascinating pictures of the interior – complete with televisions and bedding still in situ, although the council says anything interesting or of value has since been removed.
