Sheffield's sixth Lidl supermarket has opened in this area of the city
The German supermarket chain, Lidl, has opened its sixth supermarket in Sheffield today, creating 40 new jobs.
The Malin Bridge store joins Lidl branches in the Heeley; Castlebeck; Darnall; Hillsborough and Parson Cross areas of the city.
It was created as part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn expansion and regeneration plans across Great Britain for 2021 and 2022, and is believed to have generated 40 new jobs.
A spokesperson for Lidl GB, commented: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Sheffield. It is fantastic that we are able to open our sixth store in Sheffield and enable even more of the local community access to our multi-award winning products. We are delighted to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area and look forward to welcoming everyone to our new store.”
The store opening times will be between 8am - 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 4pm on Sunday, delivering an array of fresh, quality and great value produce.
During the first week of opening, customers will be able to find exclusive deals and offers on selected products including a Kids' Nerf Skate Helmet on Thursday, June 17 costing £4.99, a Dog Pool on Friday, June 18 for £19.99 and a Sharp 24 inch Smart TV + DVD Player on Saturday, June 19 at £59.
A Lidl spokesperson said the new store will be providing surplus produce and customer donations to a number of local charities, including Sharehouse Food Works Sheffield, FiveTwoSupplies, An Even Better Arbourthorne and Hope City Foundation, who all redistribute food to help feed everyone in the local community.
This is delivered through Lidl’s Feed it Back scheme, which is run in partnership with Neighbourly and connects Lidl stores up and down the country with local charities, foodbanks, community cafes and kitchens, putting quality food surplus to good use every day.
As per government guidance, the wearing of face coverings in supermarkets is still mandatory across England and Lidl says it is operating a range of social distancing measures to help maintain a safe environment for both colleagues and customers.
