Sharrow Vale Market, which started in 2009 and is usually held three times a year, was cancelled in April after the coronavirus outbreak worsened – but now organisers have decided the time is right for a comeback, as the situation ‘becomes more relaxed and shops are able to open’.
The next event will happen on Sunday, August 30, but visitors will need to follow a series of social distancing measures.

“However, we are required to ensure that the market is Covid secure for both stall holders and visitors so this one will be a little different to normal.
“Firstly, there will be fewer pitches available than normal and they will be laid out to ensure safe social distancing can be maintained.
“The licensing authority requires that all stall holders must: use contactless transactions only – card not cash; wear masks to cover the mouth and nose; wear gloves, especially when handling food; and provide hand sanitisers for themselves and customers.”

“It would be extremely helpful if everyone who submitted an application for the cancelled markets could get in touch and let us know whether they want to opt in – or out.”
The market runs from the Hunters Bar roundabout to the forecourt of Hawley’s Tyres on Sharrow Vale Road, incorporating the Dyson Place development. Normally around 100 stalls sell a variety of local produce, hot food, crafts, clothing and plants, starting at midday and finishing at 4pm. Nearby shops, pubs and cafes open to cater for attendees too.
Last month Condé Nast Traveller magazine selected Sharrow Vale as one of the country’s ‘coolest neighbourhoods’, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ancoats in Manchester and Aigburth in Liverpool.
