From Thursday, The Beer House on Ecclesall Road and other pubs, bars and restaurants in the city will have to close as England enters a four-week lockdown. While hospitality venues will still be allowed to provide takeaway and delivery services, the takeaway of alcohol will not be allowed.

On that rule, the Beer House tweeted: “Delivery service will be OK still but why stop us selling booze for people to take away when they can go to any supermarket and buy it?

"Just another kick to our industry.”

In Wales, there has been a ban on the sale of “non-essential” items, excluding alcohol.

Pubs, bars and restaurants in England must close from Thursday until at least Wednesday, 2 September.
