Sheffield city centre barbers announce new reopening rules – including no beard trims

From 4 July hairdressers in England will be allowed to reopen as part of the easing of lockdown restrictions, having been forced to close in late March.

A series of posts on the Chambers of Sheffield Instagram page outline the new steps in place to keep staff and customers safe – and indicate how other hairdressers in the city may operate from this weekend.

Appointments, which must be pre-booked, are still 30 minutes in length but customers are asked to allow up to 45 minutes for extra cleaning and social distancing measures. Customers are asked to stick to their appointment time and they will not be allowed inside until the last set of customers have left and the stations have been cleaned.

Payment will be taken at the chair, with card machines installed at every station. Anyone paying with cash must have the correct amount. Customers must arrive for their appointment with clean hair as hair will not be washed in the shop. Additionally, beard trims are not currently available.

Hand sanitiser is available next to the shop’s entrance and customers are asked to use it before having their hair cut. The shop’s toilet will not be in use and drinks will not be served to customers.

A salon owner in Sheffield said she is feeling ‘a mix of apprehension and excitement' ahead of her business reopening this weekend.
