Barrowboy on Abbeydale Road made the announcement via its Instagram page on Wednesday afternoon and said it hopes to reopen by Saturday at the latest.

A spokesperson for the bar, which opened in 2018 on the site of the now-closed Shah Oriental Grocers store, said: “Due to a potential exposure to Covid-19 for a couple of our staff, and with us only having a small team, we have decided to close the bar for the next couple of days until all our guys have been tested.

"Theirs and your safety are priority and whilst we absolutely hate closing and letting anyone down, we feel this is the correct procedure. We are optimistic that we will be back up and running by Friday or Saturday, but will keep you updated.”

As of Wednesday, different households in Sheffield are banned from mixing indoors, including in pubs, restaurants and bars.
