The Framery, on Sharrow Vale Road, was set up in 1981 and provides a bespoke picture framing service, as well as selling fine art prints and cards.

Now the owners, Gabriella Arciello and her brother Emilio, have extended the premises to add a licensed dining venue serving brunch, lunch and evening meals.

Gabriella said the launch, which follows the relaxation of lockdown restrictions, had gone ‘very well’.

“It was a big push but we managed to get everything sorted for our opening,” she said.

“By the time Saturday came we didn't have enough room for everyone. We are doing less covers at the moment due to social distancing, but we also have an outside space that’s useful.”

Gabriella and Emilio bought The Framery in 2018 from the previous owner, Sue Tideswell. The pair have since been renovating the place, which has a cheerful, yellow-painted frontage.

“We took on all the same Framery staff, who still work for us,” said Gabriella. “Myself and Emilio have a music background – he's a DJ and I used to work for an electronic music agency in London. Emilio is also a chef, which was the initial incentive to open up the restaurant.”

An all-day brunch menu is served on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 4pm. This includes La Verde – sourdough bread from Sharrow Vale Road’s Seven Hills Bakery with smashed broad beans and peas, mint, feta, poached eggs, salsa verde and streaky bacon or halloumi – as well as the ‘Italiano breakfast’ featuring pancetta strips and Italian sausage as a twist on the traditional full English.

Burgers are added to the menu from midday, then from 6pm on Friday and Saturday a selection of small plates is on offer, ranging from stuffed lamb breast to Kimchi pancakes.

Larger sharing plates can be ordered too, while desserts include a Sicilian lemon drizzle cake.

Classic cocktails and Thornbridge ales feature on the drinks menu.

“Due to Corona we have decided to take things slow at the moment, so we are opening on Thursday, Friday and Saturday days plus Friday and Saturday evenings," Gabriella said.
